Georgia: Brasstown Bald
4,840 ft (1,475 m)
Georgia’s highest point rises above a lush sweep of Appalachian foothills, where hardwood forests and misty ridgelines stretch toward the horizon. At 4,784 feet, Brasstown Bald is more of a dome than a peak—but its summit tower offers one of the most expansive views in the Southeast.
A steep, paved half-mile trail leads from the main parking area to the summit complex, which includes a museum, observation deck, and seasonal shuttle access. From the top, you can see into four states on a clear day—Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee—especially when autumn paints the hillsides in color.
For those wanting more than a short stroll, longer trails like the Arkaquah Trail offers a more challenging, 5.5-mile (one-way) approach from Track Rock Gap, climbing over 2,000 feet winding through the surrounding forest, weaving past rhododendron, laurel, and hardwoods.
Whether you take the shuttle, the sidewalk, or the long way in, Brasstown Bald serves up big views with just enough effort to earn them.
More to come…
