Mississippi: Woodall Mountain

807 ft (246 m)

Woodall Mountain, Mississippi’s highest point at 806 feet (246 meters), sits just outside the town of Iuka and is easily reached by a short drive up a paved road. The “summit” itself is marked by a stone monument, a U.S. Geological Survey benchmark, and a few radio towers. Since there’s no designated hiking trail to the top, some highpointers choose to walk the road from the base for the sake of doing it on foot. The round-trip hike is roughly 1.5 to 2 miles, depending on where you start. While it may not deliver much in the way of elevation gain or solitude, Woodall still matters to highpointers checking off their southern states. It’s also one of only a few highpoints with a bit of Civil War history—the Battle of Iuka took place nearby in 1862.
