Michigan: Mount Avron

1,979 ft (603 m)

Tucked deep in the forests of the Upper Peninsula near the shores of Lake Superior, Mount Arvon is Michigan’s highest point at 1,979 feet (603 meters). Getting there is part of the experience in this corner of the state: a drive over gravel logging roads, followed by a short walk to the wooded summit, marked with a sign, register mailbox, and picnic table. While there are no sweeping views at the top, a nearby overlook offers a glimpse of the lake and surrounding hills. The area is remote but well-marked, and the journey through quiet woodlands is part of the appeal. It’s an easy stop, but still a meaningful one for those chasing highpoints in all 50 states.
