Iowa: Hawkeye Point

1,670 ft (509 m)

Iowa’s highest point, Hawkeye Point, reaches 1,670 feet (509 meters) and sits just outside the town of Sibley, near the Minnesota border. Located on a working farm turned community landmark, this highpoint is one of the best-interpreted and most visitor-friendly in the Midwest. What it lacks in altitude, it makes up for in charm: the site features a summit marker, picnic area, educational displays, a barn mural, and even license plates from all 50 states.

The surrounding landscape is classic Iowa—rolling farmland under a wide sky—and while there’s no climb involved, the spot is thoughtfully maintained and warmly welcoming. A short stroll from the parking area takes you to the marker itself, where you can sign the guestbook, snap a photo, and enjoy the open view. It’s quick, flat, and fun—proof that not every highpoint needs a trailhead to make it memorable.
